Welcome…

A founder member of 70s pop legends Mungo Jerry this Paul King is not to be confused with his namesake from the 80s. Paul started playing blues harp at the age of 14 and progressed to banjo at 16. He took up the guitar while convalescing from an appendix operation and started to write songs. The rest, as they say… is history.

Paul at Weyfest 2010Paul joined Ray Dorset on stage at the Weyfest on Friday, 3rd September. It seems to have been a great success and went down well with the audience. Paul said; 'it was great to be back on stage with Ray again for the first time in 30 years and I look forward to doing something like this again at some point in the future'.

We would like to hear from any fans who were able to get there. If you have any photos or video you would like to share please get in touch. Perhaps you would like to write a review of the evening?

Alan Hitt (Budgie) has been in touch and has kindly supplied three video clips featuring the second Nightshift line up from 1986. It turns out that Budgie can claim Joe Rush as a 2nd cousin once removed on his father's side. Indeed it was Joe who introduced Budgie to Paul at a gig at the Feathers in Wraysbury a couple of years before the first Nightshift was put together.

The clips have been added to the video section. We hope you enjoy them.

30th September 2009 - 'Live in Portland, Maine, USA 1970'

Some fantastic recordings have been unearthed of the final gig of Mungo Jerry's 1970 tour of the States featuring Paul and the original band members. Sound quality is very good considering the amount of time it has been left around. Each band member can be heard clearly and the disc is just under 30 minutes in length. Tracks:

MAGGIE, HAVE A WHIFF ON ME, JOHNNY B BADDE, JUMP IN MY CADILLAC, IN THE SUMMERTIME, MIDNIGHT SPECIAL

Jump In My Cadillac with a change of lyrics later became Baby Jump, hear it here as it was then performed as a stage ad-lib making it a must for all collectors. Available now from the Mungo Jery online shop. £7 plus p&p.
