18th August 2008

Tina Metz featured in the August edition of Record Collector. She is a big fan of the original King Earl Boogie Band and runs a site dedicated to the band. Tina has interviewed Paul and the result can be found by clicking on the image above. It is a fascinating insight in to what happened at the time and complements nicely a similar interview with Dave Lambert.

Mungo Banjo?
Fancy owning a piece of Mungo history. If so, you will be excited to know that Paul plans to auction the banjo he played on 'In The Summertime' and other numbers way back in the 70s. This will probably happen via Ebay and we should have more details when Paul gets back from holiday next month.

New Songs
Paul is now writing again and we are hopeful of a new CD collection of tracks just as soon as all the recording can be completed. There also plans to produce some new video footage. Watch this space!

YouTube
And, speaking of video there is a nice clip on YouTube of Paul playing with Jackie Lynton last year. If you haven't seen it a link has been added to the Sounds page. The clip includes Colin Pattenden and Chris Bryant on guitar both current members of Skeleton Crew. You will, of course, find numerous other videos on YouTube featuring Paul as part of the original Mungo Jerry 1970-72.

6th January 2008… an apology!!
Sincere apologies to those interested in and involved with the Pyrford gig in February. Unfortunately, we have been showing the incorrect date. It has now been changed to the correct date which is Saturday, 9th February 2008 and not 7th February as previously published.

11th October 2007…
Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of news just now. However, Paul has three gigs at the Prince of Wales plus another as yet unconfirmed date at the British Volunteer. For the next two gigs Paul will be joined by Chris Bryant (Jackie Lynton Band) on guitar.

28th August 2007…
Paul plays the 'Weyfest' in Farnham on Saturday, 1st September at 6 pm. Paul will be joined by BRM on bass and Ian Campbell, former 'Crew' member on guitar. For more information visit www.weyfest.co.uk.

8th August 2007…
At last the Sanctuary Collection is finally available. Our friends at mungojerry.com have copies of Paul's 'Wind of Change' for sale alongside Ray Dorset's 'Gonna Bop Til I Drop'. Happy listening and if you would like to send your review in we will be pleased to hear from you.

A new gig has just been confirmed at The Bell. Old Charlton Rd, Shepperton on Saturday 11th August (9pm). The line up includes BRM, Mike Piggott and Jeff Ward for one last gig before he leaves for Ireland. Oh, and there's a Hog Roast too!!

15th July 2007…
Not too many gigs in the pipeline at present and unfortunately Paul has had to cancel all but one of the Cornish gigs previously listed.

Meanwhile, he returns to the Prince of Wales in Weybridge on 19th July and again on 16th August when he will be joined by an old friend in Mike Piggott on Violin. It promises to be a great evening.

We are now reliably informed that the Sanctuary collection will be released on 6th August.

8th June 2007…
The gig at The Prince Of Wales scheduled for 21st June has been put back a week to 28th June. Unfortunately, this will be Jeff Ward's last appearance for a while as he returns to Ireland shortly afterwards. Hopefully, we will see him back again soon.

27th May 2007…
First off apologies for the lack of news recently. Paul is busy renovating his new home in London but he has found time to get together with Jeff Ward to record five new numbers. There are three new songs written by Paul; 'Hey Hey', 'Somebody Light Me a Fire' and a third as yet untitled song. In addition to these there is a brand new version of 'Voodoo' and 'Long Black Veil'. The intention is to add a further 5-7 tracks for a new studio album.

It seems that the Sanctuary album is now sheduled for 9th July 2007. It has been a long wait but at least it is still showing on their website. The image opposite provides a link to their site for more information.

2nd March 2007…
Click here to read Alan Taylor's review of 'Live at the Phoenix'. Thanks Alan.

For the first time in a while now Paul has started to write again and in the near future he will be going into the studio with Jeff to lay down three new tracks. This is great news and with recent gigs going down really well we are looking forward to a terrific 2007. Ray Phillips of the Nashville Teens has and will continue to guest at London gigs plus the possibility of Paul playing with Ray Dorset again also remains a possibility.

There is much to look forward to including the 'WeyFest' in September!

31st January 2007…

The much promised CD 'Live at the Phoenix' will be available online via the Mungo Jerry Shop from Monday 5th February 2007. Price: £9 + £1 p&p.

Limited supplies will also be available at gigs.

Featuring the full 'Crew' line up of Paul King, Colin Pattenden and Jeff Ward plus 'Smiley' Steve on drums the track listing is as follows:

  • My Babe
  • Cocaine/San Francisco Bay Blues
  • Keep Your Hands Off
  • King Bee
  • Creepin’ Like Jesus
  • Maggie’s Farm (MP3 Sample)
  • Move That Thing
  • Going Up The Country
  • Maylou
  • Hard Rain
  • She Belongs To Me
  • 38 Plug

On the subject of gigs we have added a whole bunch of new dates both in and around London and in Cornwall. Paul will be making regular visits back to Cornwall to join up with Mandolin player Richard Barrett. Check out the Gigs page for more info.

We have made a conscious decision not to speculate any more on the release of 'Winds of Change'. Release now appears to be early March. It will happen but we can't, in all honesty, say exactly when. Very frustrating!

7th January 2007…
As we wait eagerly for the release of 'Winds of Change' we can look forward to more gigs this year. Confirmed dates have been added to the Gigs page including a joint gig with Jackie Lynton.

19th December 2006…
Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to you all!

First some good news! The 1987 12" vinyl issue, 'Boogie Woogie Skiffle & Blues', is now available from the Mungo Jerry Shop. This is a real collectors' item and each copy has been signed by Paul. In case you need reminding the tracks are:

  • Live For Today
  • One More Time
  • Sly Munjer Blues
  • Ain’t Superstitious

The recent London gig with Jeff Ward went down very well and we can look forward to more dates in 2007.

Unfortunately, the Sanctuary collection has been put back yet again but only as far as 5th February 2007. The Phoenix CD will also have to wait until the New Year. Pressure of work and time have both conspired against us on this one.
